Coming fresh off shooting the 2023 Michigan Icefest, I linked up with The North Face athlete and Kentucky-neighbor Sam Elias. We worked together a number of years back on the Michigan Ice Film, so it was fun to catch up and connect over discussions about Kentucky, bourbon, and film ideas for the coming year.
Read MoreA busy fall season wouldn’t be complete without capturing some of the colors of the changing seasons! A 5-day whirlwind tour saw our small crew running all over Kentucky tourist destinations to film and photograph whatever fall colors we could find. Here’s a brief recap of our shoot, along with a few sample shots from each day.
Read MoreIt was just about two years prior that I trekked up Kilimanjaro on a shoot for Nadus Films. I wrote about that first trip in a blog you can find here. For this new project, it would be similar in the sense that I would need to document the trek, film interviews and other scenic footage, but what would be different is that I would be the solo filmmaker. I would need to capture all of the video, timelapses, and audio myself.
Read MoreIn October of 2019, I was hired to spend a week road tripping across Southern California with two awesome actresses and a hard-working production manager. The end result was a series of short tourism videos that are being used to promote California for international travel. Here’s a peek at a few of the videos and what went on behind the scenes.

Read MoreBack in the fall season, I scored some cheap tickets for a flight to Denver, and made plans to connect with my buddy Jon Jugenheimer for a week of ice climbing in Cody, Wyoming. February 1st came fast, and before i knew it I was waiting at the Denver airport to be picked up, only to drive straight through the night to Wyoming.
Read MoreI had about a week to myself hanging out at the American Alpine Club Climber's Ranch in Grand Teton National Park. I had no fixed plans and no set partner. My only goal was to climb part or all of the Exum Route on the Grand, one of the 50 classic climbs in North America. Here's how it went down.
Read MoreIt seems that every summer Jen and I find ourselves out west for one reason or another, and we've really dialed in the recipe for a great road trip. Start with the centerpiece of the meal, a job or project that's located deep in the American West. Rub liberally on both sides with a few days of rock climbing, add a dash of hiking through classic national park trails, and finish with a pinch of seeing old friends and making new ones, and voila! That right there is tasty road trip.
Read MoreIf you know me at all, you'll know that every winter season I migrate to the southern shores of Lake Superior in search of ice and adventure. 2018 was no exception, and as is often the case, this year was full of its own unique series of events.
Read MoreFor a week in June, I based myself out of Boulder, Colorado, and sought out classic moderate trad climbs. I made it to Estes Park, Mt. Evans, Eldorado Canyon, Lumpy Ridge, and a few other places in just seven days, completing 33 pitches in total. Here's a brief look at a few of the climbs and areas I visited.
Read MoreEvery winter I make the drive up north to Munising, Michigan, to spend a few weeks ice climbing and taking on a few video and photo jobs while there. 2017 was no exception, as my activities included climbing with athletes to flying drones for a Japanese film crew.
Read MoreAmidst a tumultuous couple of months that had been jam-packed with video shoots around the country, in early July I found myself in Michigan for my good friend Jakob's wedding. While enjoying a draft german beer at the reception, compliments of Jakob's new father-in-law, Jen and I chatted up our buddy Scott and after about 10 minutes, we had all but planned out specifics for a kayaking trip on the Two Hearted River. Four weeks later, we were on the water, but only after having made an unexpected trip to the animal hospital...

Read MoreIt’s safe to say that when the ball dropped on the evening of December 31st, 2014, I had no idea that in twelve short months I would be writing a summary of my experiences from my new home base in Lexington. I’ll try to keep this as brief as possible, while exploring the notable jobs and events of the year, as well as the decisions that led my partner Jen and I to a somewhat unlikely destination.

Read MoreI ran away from Colorado to one of my favorite sport climbing crags – The Red River Gorge in Kentucky. This was all about climbing, hanging with old friends, and giving myself a break from the hard work it takes to be an independent producer.
Read MoreThis all started when I was in North Carolina, producing a corporate video project that had been in development for more than six months. I was directing a crew all week long to shoot interviews and b-roll at a huge electronics repair facility. After one of our shoot days, I saw a job posting from photographer Zach Sutton and Gary Martin of RGG EDU, both of whom happen to be fellow writers with me at fstoppers.com. They needed a behind the scenes shooter in Albuquerque for about a week.
