Photography at the 2018 North American Ice Climbing Championships
Despite not having conditions for making ice, a primary component of ice climbing, the folks at USA Ice Climbing didn't let the warm temperatures melt their spirits and enthusiasm. Using plywood structures and dry tooling holds, routes we set for both lead and speed climbing.
I spent two days taking stills of competitors at Peabody Ice Climbing, in Fenton, Michigan, which featured a nice cross section of male and female, and old and young climbers alike.
Taking photos of an ice climbing competition was a fun gig! I'm glad I had a belay seat though, as most of the day was spent just sitting in a harness at the top of the routes!
